Prioritising

What I want to do and what I need to do seem to be on opposite faces of a coin these days. I want to study musical theory in a greater depth, but I also have to contend with learning about the world of computing for my degree.

I plan to delve into the "Computer Musician" series of books over the summer. I've found them to contain lots of relevant information when skimming over them. I also have plenty tutorial videos to keep me amused which are a little bit more fun than reading from a book. The VTC Mixing Essentials seems to be a good viewing.

Summer should be fun!

Track Review: Jace Syntax - Something 4 U

Initial Impressions
  • Nice old school feel to this release, complemented by an 808/909 styled drum track, 80's electro synths and deep house bassline.
  • The track makes good use of the sound field, all elements sit nicely and have their own space in the mix.
  • Nice and relaxing, pleasing to listen to.
  • I'm not entirely sure the 80s electro synth bassline is perfect for the mix, but it should be noted I am listening via headphones. It's a catchy bassline regardless of the patch used.
  • Love the pads, they take the mind into a dreamy blissful state.
  • The vocals are used sparingly, and add a subtle humanised touch to the track.
This is one of those tracks you'll find yourself looping in your media player and not notice that it's played 10 times already!

Good work Jace!
